How I made FoodFindsTV

A lot of people have written me asking for details about how I made FoodFindsTV.com

There really is nothing to it…

First, you need to know how to make web pages and upload them to a server. If you can’t do that, find someone who can.

Second, to use the method I used, you’re limited to working with videos that are available for free syndication from companies that will host and stream them for you. Google is a one company that does this.

Assuming these two conditions are true, here’s what it takes to make a site like the one I did:

1. Go to Google Video: video.google.com

2. Search for the topic(s) you’re interested in. The search bar is on the top of the page.

3. Screen the free videos that come up in the search results. Some videos are only available for purchase. Ignore the ones that are marketing “For sale only.”

4. Go to the lower right hand of the page where the video is displayed where you’ll see this statement:

“Copy and paste the HTML below to embed this video onto a web page.”

5. Cut and paste the code onto your web page.

The code will look something like this (sample program):

<embed style=”width:400px; height:326px;” id=”VideoPlayback”
align=”middle” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash”
src=”http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-8356110417132213768″
allowScriptAccess=”sameDomain” quality=”best” bgcolor=”#ffffff”
scale=”noScale” wmode=”window” salign=”TL”
FlashVars=”playerMode=embedded”> </embed>

Just put the code where you want on your page and Google (or any company with a similar setup handles all the hosting, bandwidth and streaming.)

That’s it.

I wish I could say it was more complicated that that (so I can declare myself a genius), but like so many things on the Internet, the genius is built into the tool.

Just use it!

    Hi Ken,
    As simple as it may be it is still the sort of thing that eludes many, many people. The prospect of playing with something like video is very scary to many people as they assume it is going to be beyond them.
    That’s where a post like the one above can be very eye openning and helpful.
    Once again you overdeliver and make the seemingly impossible… possible.
    Thanks Ken,
    Sam

    Ken, I’ve got to admit – you’ve made this sooooo simple that a child could do it – heck, even ME!!!!
    When I first subscribed to your video newsletter, it was to keep an eye on an upcoming trend that might come about in 5 or 10 years – your FoodTV made me go – “Eureka!!!!” – it’s here NOW!
    I could see from the info you’ve sent that there are more and more great sites being made using video – and more opportunities – but to see how easy it was to simply cut and paste a site in minutes!!!!
    Bravo!
    That’s it
    Just Bravo!
    I actually had a peek at it when I signed up for a Blogging site called Squidoo, that allows you to go to YouTube and grab videos, or nine clickable small frames of videos – to add to your “lense” – or web page
    Here’s one of mine about internet marketing to give you an idea of how it looks:
    http://www.squidoo.com/drmanirocks
    Dr Mani and Internet Marketing Squidoo Blog
    The YouTube videos are in the second block from the top
    For the internet marketing squidoo blog,http://www.squidoo.com/drmanirocks/ I found 9 internet marketing videos, for my real estate investing blog, http://www.squidoo.com/creative-real-estate-investing/ I found 9 real estate videos, and for my gambling/poker blog, http://www.squidoo.com/online–poker/ I found 9 gambling videos, for my online dating blog, http://www.squidoo.com/online–dating/ , more videos, and for my mortgages blog, http://www.squidoo.com/123mortgages/ I found 8 videos – there is stuff on ANYTHING! ( and more being aded daily)
    Just Another easy way of adding video to your pages
    But I liked your FoodTv idea better – gotta go see what sort of videos are out there and come up with a UNIQUE idea like yours!
    Bravo again!

    Hi Ken, if any of your blog subscribers want to see a step by step process via video, here’s one that they can enjoy…

    If you look at the time stamp between this post and the one about two comments ago – that’s how long – maybe an hour – it took to start with a wine site – http://123–wine.com – already created – but scroll to the bottom – 8 videos about wine – each monetized with Google Ads – Squidoo w2as one idea about making money from video – but the Google Ad idea is perfect!
    Now lets see what the search engines think about video – added content? unique? worth ranking highly? hmmmmmmmmm…….
    I’ll post back as to the results – meanwhile I’ve got a cat furniture site to add videos to!!!!!

    Between step 3 and 4 you may have to click on a text link that says ’embed’ in the ‘Playlist’ ‘Details’ ‘Send’ list. Took me a little while to find! 🙂

    The wine effort was basically an add-on to an already existing datafeed frame.
    How about using the power of viral word of mouth, and put Google Ads and back end ads, as in this example?
    Cute cat videos, with cat furniture as the back end:

    This is getting exciting!

    OK I followed the directions, found a video on this topic and have it posted on a couple different page (at the bottom of the above link for one).
    Next, I gotta start shooting my own videos!
    I’m not a technophobe but I’m no expert either so if I can do it anybody reading this blog can!
    We’ll see if it adds any value – my guess is that it might keep some visitors on my site longer but will they sign up for the list or buy the affiliate course too? We shall see.

    Ken… this is just plain EXCITING! You are such an inspiration to me, anyway… I love your emails (not over-loaded with BS) and you are a “real” person who actually answers his emails to top it off.
    Thank you for the huge inspiration to me that you’ve been. I bought some video domain names… and because of you, I actually developed one this week. (No laughing… it was really hard work to make those drapes for the stage!) Anyway, I would love to have your opinion of what I did (yeah, even if it’s criticism… I value it highly because it helps me grow). I named it VidClix and I put the mockup here:
    http://vidclix.com/vidclixsite/vidclix.html
    I also appreciate all the additional comments here… and more excellent ideas! Thanks to everyone who helps dreams come true by sharing their knowledge and expertise. Adding the video was the *easiest part* of the whole process. :-))

    Hi Ken,
    Just to verify this:
    >>Just put the code where you want on your page and Google (or any company with a similar setup handles all the hosting, bandwidth and streaming.)
    So my example below means “You Tube” is picking up the bandwidth from my website as I feature one of their videos?

    Hi Ken,
    Your FoodFindsTV message arrived just as I was putting a new site up, so I shamelessly copied your idea. I would never have known how easy it was to put video up on a site if you hadn’t told me.
    Thanks Ken.

    To Mohamed and other people who make posts in foreign languages:
    French is a beautiful language and in a perfect world this would be a simultaneous translation blog, but it’s not.
    My French is not good enough to understand what you are talking about.
    Since the purpose of this board is communication and posting in a foreign language does not facilitate this, I’ll be taking down all non-English language posts.
    Post once and I’ll send you a friendly warning. Post twice and I’ll be forced to ban all your posts from the blog.

    Hi Ken,
    Thought you might be interested to see a competitor of yours – TasteTV (http://www.tastetv.com/).
    They’ve got a good product.

    I just looked at the Google video site.
    Played some videos – want to link to my website but cannot see the heading you have described:
    “Copy and paste the HTML below to embed this video onto a web page.”
    Has Google changed this?
