This is footage from the first conference on web marketing ever held. The year was 1994. The place San Francisco. Featured speakers, your truly and Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of Netscape.
It’s an hour or so long so it’s not a sales piece per se. On the other hand, it’s a good answer to anyone who asks me the question: “How long have you been involved in Internet marketing? And what the heck do you know?”
The video is hosted courtesy of Google Video.
Cost to me: nada.
We just uploaded the footage (easier said than done actually because of its length) and they provided us with the code to put the player on the blog. Slick, huh? You can do it too.
Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.
Note: Unless you have the Google video player, the quality is not great. Because this is historical footage, I kind of like the fact it looks a bit rough.
Keep in mind as you’re watching, this is from 1994.

All this to direct your attention to two things I’d change:
1. On these free upload sites, you need to make sure you have something meaningful in the first frame because that’s the frame they display in the player.
I’m displaying a black box. Ooops!
2. I didn’t put a copyright notice anywhere and I am the copyright owner. On the other hand, if anyone wants to run this on their web sites or TV station and make me famous, I have no objections.
Anyway, if we learn from each others mistakes (plentiful) and good ideas (occasional), we’re all going to get there that much faster.
That’s what this is all about.

Famous? You’re already famous. Even though I knew you were, I simply didn’t know how much so until yesterday on my way back from a sailing vacation in Florida.
I’m used to seeing bridges named for politicians, religious leaders and philanthropists, but I was astonished to see the “Kenneth McCarthy” bridge at Mile 17 over I-95 in Georgia.

We’re excited about video at http://www.silverlandjewelry.com too. We are in the preliminary stages of adding video to our bridesmaids gifts so that brides can get a real world view of their choices. Ken, you are one very scary guy! I went to System Seminar last year, and have to say that you’re the first person I’ve met who I would classify as genius.
I can only add that seeing this video and how far ahead of the time you were back then makes me realize the value of what you taught last year.
I can’t afford the time to make the System Seminar this year, but for anybody on the fence, I give it the highest reccomendation.
