Your government at work

As long-time subscribers know we’ve been involved in numerous post-hurricane relief efforts – New Orleans (Katrina), New York City (Sandy), and the Catskills near me (Irene).

It’s the same story every time:

1. The news media gets everything completely wrong.

2. The various governments screw up beyond belief including interfering with local relief efforts.

3. National fundraisers like the Red Cross swoop in like vultures, suck up all the money and do next-to-nothing.

And, thank God,  regular people come out of the woodwork and  save the day.

The U.S. news media never shows how bad things are in natural disasters.

At best, they will tell you how many people died and how many people have no electricity. What they don’t say is how many people have been rendered homeless, hungry, and have no access to even the most basic medical care.

I know this nurse behind a  grassroots effort in Eastern Tennessee/Western North Carolina.

(She’s featured in my bestselling book “What the Nurses Saw”available on Amazon)

She lives in Tennessee and is stepping up to get things done – as she always does in an emergency.

You can read about her effort here.

A semi-related note…

When people wanted and needed to learn how to make money online, it wasn’t Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or the government that helped them figure it out.

It was thousands of normal (well, mostly normal) folks pulling together to make it happen.

This November 5 – the 30th anniversary of the commercialization of the Internet – I’m bringing together the cream of the crop from the last 30 years to reminisce and point the way forward in 2024.

If for some crazy reason you haven’t already put yourself on the invitation list, you can do that here now.
