Hurricane Sandy: 25 days later

This is what I’m thinking about most of the time these days:

Also, we brought out the software platform we developed for Post-Irene relief.

The data is not as complete as I’d like it to be, but this remains the easiest way I know to get info on how to make DIRECT contributions to the relief effort:

There are still, as of the time of this writing, THOUSANDS of people in New York without power, heat and reliable access to food and medical services. I know New Jersey is also suffering, but I can only comment on things I’ve seen with my own eyes in Queens and Staten Island.

Like Post-Irene (and Katrina), this is going to be a long haul and the race is on to get the word out about the actual conditions before public attention wanes.

The news media is doing its usual half-assed job and the Red Cross vulture-like is sucking up the lion’s share of donations, most of which will end of either wasted or in their general operations fund.

Would someone please tell the deep thinkers at Apple Computers (donated $2.5 million) and all the celebrities that giving money to the Red Cross is throwing money down a rat hole.

When you’re past the age of six and have access to the Internet, “It’s the thought that counts” just doesn’t cut it anymore. Details here: The Red Cross, a cynical money pit
