It’s a thrill to see old friends and colleagues who I haven’t seen in years post a comment about an article. It’s also fun to see the number of people who respond to any given piece.
New information, different points of view, intelligent and informed opinions that make you think…these are the things that make blogs such a great medium…
…Some of the time.
The reality is once a blog starts getting traffic, the spammers show up along with their inbred cousins, the hasslers. You know, the trolls. Those idiots who apparently have nothing better to do than disrupt conversations with personal attacks and irrelevant arguments designed to deceive and drag promising discussions into the mud.
I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.
That’s why it’s with sadness after years of delighting in comments to my articles that I’ve decided to turn off comments on this and my other blogs.
I just don’t have the time to play private investigator trying to figure out who is sincerely trying to advance the discussion and who is coming back again and again using different user IDs pretending to be different people for the sole purpose taking the conversation off track and wrecking it (Yes, there are morons who do that and things like that. Lots of them.)
Since I’m not selling ad impressions and I don’t care about my social media status, I don’t need comments and since tending to the comments has become a cheerless chore, the discussion part of this blog is closed effective now.
If you enjoy the articles, great. Let me know – and do share them. And when we have an occasion to, let’s have an intelligent conversation about the fine points.
