More from Guba

Sometimes this video works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Anyway, you’ve got to hand it to Guba. They’re actually using video to explain their business.

P.S. Do you want to be notified when new articles like this one are posted to the blog?

It’s easy. Just go to this page and we’ll add your name to our bulletin list:

I heard that youtube.com burns through USD 1 million per month in bandwidth use. What’s the business model here?

Is there anyway to use peer to peer software SAFELY and what would you use so as to reduce the cost of bandwidth
    Thank you

I don’t know what YouTube’s business model is, but I know what it would be if I were them.
I’d let everyone post their videos (they’re already doing that.)
And then when I saw one take off, I’d contact the poster and offer them money for the rights to tack an ad at the end.
That’s the only way I can think of to harness the power of totally random viral videos.
YouTube has already done the hard part.
As for Guba, I don’t necessarily offer them as a business model.
I like the fact that as an Internet video company they’re using the medium to tell their story and it was a pretty good example of a corporate profile. I also like their interface and as a consumer I did the fact that it’s free.
As I mentioned in my original post about Guba, their core business (the one that makes them money) is making the shall we say “risque” parts of Usenet easly accessible to the public for a monthly fee.
Peer-to-peer? See my post about BitTorrent.

    Forget about YouTube’s business model!
    What about Ken’s?
There’s not an ad on here anywhere!
And no charge for ANY of this info!
Just a wonderful way of publicizing the System Seminars? Making us all like him a lot?
    Who knows?
    Who cares?
Both he and YouTube are smart enough to figure it out, one way or another.
Why would someone let Millions of people chat freely with each other? (ICQ) Hmmm, looks like there IS an exit strategy – get the traffic and SOMETHING – a lot of things – can be done with it!
On the YouTube vein, I made a “lens” at Squidoo – and it lets you add either 9 YouTube video snippets or 1 full video, playing from your “lens” – there are links to 5 “lenses I created, each with 9 YouTube snippets near the top – Here’s the blog post with the links, if its Ok with Ken (if it isn’t, you won’t see the Blog url here:

LOL – Thanks Ken – and thanks for your pioneering, first guy out of the chutes work in video – ya got ME reading and wondering what the heck to do with it!
