Google website optimizer in cartoons

We’ve talked a lot about Google over the years, so it’s great to see them talk about us on one of their official blogs.

Tom Leung who is product manager for Google’s Website Optimizer tool was kind enough to come to Chicago to System 2008 and walk us through this extremely powerful and relatively new testing tool.

It’s the same one Google uses in-house for its own testing – and it’s free.

One of our faculty members Sean D’Souza, who is a wizard of info marketing, happens to have been a professional cartoonist in an earlier career and drew some cartoons illustrating big points in Tom’s talk.

I’m thinking of making Tom’s entire talk at System 2008 available for free to everyone in the Internet marketing world. Since it’ll take an investment of time and money on my part, if you’re interested in this, definitely let me know by posting below.

Meanwhile, here are Sean’s System 2008 cartoons on Google’s blog: click here for the cartoons

Hey! Those are awesome cartoons. Sean was by far my favorite presenter in Chicago. Glad to see he’s getting some new press.

    Hi Ken,

I’m happy to help you see if your blog can receive comments. Your site has always been a great source of reliable info.

I like the cartoons from Tom’s talk regarding testing and was interested to see the idea of testing big changes rather than just small textual changes. Previously I’d been led to believe that it was best to test small and gradually rather than a whole different approach.

I’d love to see more on Tom’s talk on the best way to use their optimising tool. There’s obviously lots of other things to consider and I ‘d love to see rest of Tom’s talk to put it into context.

    Thanks,

    Ben

Cool cartoons, Ken. Thanks for the pointer.

I would love to get my hands on Tom’s presentation. I hope you get enough feedback to pursue this offer…

  6. July 3rd, 2008 | 3:05 PM

    Ken,

I think this seminar would be a great benefit when you get the chance to put it together. Let me know,

  7. July 3rd, 2008 | 3:19 PM

    Hi Ken,

Sean’s cartoons are fantastic. They really emphasize the important points of Tom’s talk at the System.

Tom’s talk was one of my favourites (hard to choose a favourite with so many awesome presenters to choose from). I was blown away from what Tom presented to us and can’t believe that Google is giving this fantastic service away for free. Lucky for us.

I think giving the mp3 away to everyone would benefit a lot of people. It was such a good presentation that I would gladly pay for it again. I know I can hardly wait to get all the recordings sometime when they arrive in the next couple of days.

Hope you have happy Independence Day and weekend.

    Cheers,
    Robin

I got to see all Sean’s cartoons during a chat we had between sessions. The one he did of the Rock Drummer was hilarious! (I sure hope you video’d that one…)

He has an amazing gift for “gestalt” – seeing the big picture and presenting it with all the smaller pieces as they relate to each other and the overall experience (hope that makes sense!)

It would be great to have them all available…

    Hey Ken……..

Anything that would make the complexity of internet marketing easier, more understandable, or more profitable is of interest to this over 60 SBO. Thanks for the cartoons. And thanks for an e-Mail that has good information and isn’t 12 pages long that you have to scroll through to get to the $10,000 offer to make me a millionaire along with “all the rest of us verrrrry cool guys.”

Yes, Ken, it would be fantastic to get Tom’s system talk for free!! A great offer! I’m a beginner and I must thank you for all the easy to digest content and entire interviews aimed specifically at people like me.

  13. July 3rd, 2008 | 4:12 PM

Hey, it was great fun to do those cartoons. And yes, I’ve sent some of the cartoons of the System Seminar as well to Ken. And if you’re all nice to him, I’m sure he’ll be happy to give you a sneak peek.

And thanks for all those nice things you guys are saying about me :) I do appreciate it.

Yes please. I thought the cartoons with the Takeaways were a super overview (and funny!) so I’d love to hear the presentation.

Thanks for adding humor and value to our “inter-trek” journey. This resonates so well with the challenges we face.

    No way!

I won’t ask you to name names, but that is the worst testing advice I’ve ever heard.

Reality is that you can’t test everything so you have to be selective in what you test.

Testing small things is going to normally yield small changes.

If you’re talking about AdWords ads or other very short ads, there isn’t anything to test but text.

But if you’re talking about landing pages, sales letters, order pages etc, you want to test dramatically different approaches.

The bigger the spread between one idea and the other the better.

  19. July 3rd, 2008 | 5:07 PM

    Ken,

I immediately devour everything you send my way, because you never fail to impress me again and again. Of course I’d love to get a hold of this mp3.

    Ken,

Thanks for the generous offer. I would certainly like you to make Sean’s presentation available. He is a great talent!

  21. July 3rd, 2008 | 5:36 PM

    Ken,

Cartoons are awesome and highlighted few of the key themes in a memorable way. I loved the landing pages one. Love to hear Toms talk for free and especially if it was supplemented with professionally designed cartoons.

Very effective cartoon presentation. I learned a lot and I am printing the drawings out to refer to them often as a reminder. Keep up the good work! I also would love to hear Toms’ talk.

    Wow Ken,
It’s great that google Corporate recognized the value of System Seminars. As a budding Internet Marketer, that lets me know that I should pay more attention to System Seminars. In fact I’m looking to find out when the next System Seminar will be held.
My Juice plus website and my Math tutoring website will benefit immensely from Pwerful internet marketing info.

I really enjoyed the cartoons. I do have great “post-Taguchi” method software that does the testing for me. Over the last couple of years I’ve learned from many experts, including you Ken, that testing is very important.
Thanks for continuing to provide great content. Oh Ken, yes I’d really appreciate hearing Tom Leung’s talk.

I would love to hear the google talk.

    Hi Ken

Go ahead and post the talk. More grist to the mill!

Love your stuff and how you let me know about it.

As a member of Sean’s Psychotactics program, I had already heard about and read not only what Tom Leung mentioned, but some additional stuff available on Sean’s blog at http://www.psychotactics.com/blog/ . . . but I love your offer for the whole talk! Wow!

May your give-give-give turn back and shower you with great blessings.

As always you come up trumps.

Not only is it a coup getting Tom to speak at the System with Sean’s innovation the whole talk is now in layman’s terms.

I’d love to see the full presentation.

Thanks again for being the no.1!

    Ken,
Definitely could use some extra help on the optimization front. Cartoons make it easier to learn especially when I hit those &#! sticking points in optimization testing.

So please yes, share the full presentation.

    Ken,

I’ve been up and running for about 6 months now. I’m looking to invest some $ into training, but I don’t have a couple thousand to throw at it right now.

I’m tech savvy but a beginner in Internet marketing. If I was to spend $500 on educating myself, which of your products would be best suited for me?

  40. July 4th, 2008 | 1:57 PM

That would be incredible, thank you so much

For someone new to the game?…The System Smart Beginners Program.

It’s designed to make sure you not only get ALL the fundamentals of Internet marketing, but also learn how to use ALL the basic tools you need to make money online.

It comes with a three-month follow up program and we constantly update it as new things come along.

    http://www.SmartBeginners.com

It’s called smart “beginners” because it’s designed to take a person from zero to pro fast.

But there are many money-making pros that
have told me they’re very happy to have gone through the program because it reminded – and sometimes informed – them of important things they were not using.

How to find money-making ideas…how test them inexpensively…how to take winners and roll them up and make real businesses of them…

It’s the core of our approach and the reason we create more successful students than any other training…And it is under $500.

    hey Ken …

you’re right … what a great idea with the cartoons! fun for the techies and approachable for the non-techies!

Personally I’d love to hear what Tom had to say so here’s hoping that you have enough demand to warrant it!

(if not I’ll just post everyday until you do!) ;-)

    thanks!

    Hi Ken,

These were great. The combination of the cartoons and having Tom’s “takeaway” worked really well.

I would like to see the video as well. I’m getting the CDs, but seeing the video would be helpful learning as well. Thanks for all your work!

I am wanting to break into online marketing but there is so much out here that I am having a hard time knowing the good from the “waste of time” ones. I would definitely appreciate being able to see and hear this speaker. I loved the cartoons and they are very much to the point. There are a lot of terms I see that I do not know what they mean. Is there a “Guide to Online Marketing Terms” available? Please let me know if you make this presenation available!

    Thanks in advance!

Sean’s cartoons really capture the essence of your message, which is put up quality pages, test them, and give your tests enough time to be actionable. Wish I could have been at The System, to meet everyone and hear the presenters in person.

It would be fantastic (and most generous of you) to put up Tom Leung’s Google presentation free of charge.

Thanks for what I’ve already learned, looking forward to learning more…

Ken, I have been totally amazed at what you offer to us newbies for free. At times it all seems over my head, but I am trying to soak up everything you send me. I didn’t go to your System Seminar this year because I didn’t think I was ready. I am looking forward to System Seminar 2009 and am planning on attending. Putting this out for free would be a great boost to my personal learning curve, and I would suppose, to thousands of other internet marketing “wannabees”. Even if you don’t put it up for free, thank you for all I have learned already!
